And just in time too!  For those of you who are regular news-watchers, you might have seen that DC had been absolutely pummeled by snow in the last few days.  AND!  It’s not over.  Round two begins tomorrow… great…

Anyway, for those readers who have been following us for a while, you may remember my endless griping about how I’ll be needing a decent coat.  Mission FINALLY accomplished!

Thanks to generous gift-givers over the holidays (and in some cases, the gift receipts that came with them) I have three new additions to my now-growing coat collection:

The Comfy All-Purpose One

The pretty, dressy one from Forever 21

The back of the 3rd one... couldn't find a better image. Oops

That’s it for now friends!  I think I’m in for another snow day.  I thought I’d be happy about it, but it turns out, I LOVE my internship =)

Hello!
Instead of studying for my biology test which is this thursday, and i havn’t started studying at all, I decided i would rather write on here for the first time.

I hope my post comes up correctly. This already looks confusing… but anyways i suppose I’ll just write a whole buncha nonsense.
Sorry to whoever reads this, my writing capabilities are not at the full potential as they should be. I hate english haha, but i love to read. Im really bad when it comes to sentence structuring, sentence fragments, and incomplete thoughts. I’ll jump from one subject to the next. Which I’m about do…

I’m currently at school on break before my next class which is stats… I don’t mind stats its just not interesting to me. Just when i got away from math in highschool it comes to haunt me at college too. I remember my highschool math teacher telling me that you don’t really need math to achieve a career in life. WHAT A LIE!! first off I wanted to get into pharmacy, which im no longer going into. She said i could get into pharmacy with the level of math i was taking right now. So of course i thought i was A-okay, but nope, because of her i had to take summer school… GRRR so this is why i currently hate math because of her…

ALSO i hate 8am classes, Tuesdays and Fridays are 8am-5pm… before i use to love tuesdays and fridays. Because, Tuesdays are cheap movies nights, and fridays well obviously cause its the end of school and start of a weekend. But now i hate them…

uhoh class is starting in ten minutes.
this is Lindsey Fuentebella

p.s. (I’m for sure editting this post, you can tell i rushed, I’ll tell you more about myself as well.)

Time for Tea – Lara January 22, 2010

I know I know, who am I again?  Sorry for disappearing for dayyyys.  New years was kind of a hectic time for me and the family.  Prior to new years my grandpa suffered from a stroke and was hospitalized, and after days in the hospital he passed away.  Don’t be sad though, he’s in a better place and I firmly believe that.

It was through this experience that I was shown the true support of family.  Once my lolo had passed family started flying in from all over the place -  Boston, Philippines, Ireland, etc. And at one point my brother did a head count of the people sleeping in my house and the total was 20.  Jeeze louise.  It truly was bittersweet.  The conditions under which everyone came together was terrible, but once they were all together it was nothing but laughs and reminiscing.

My lolo’s eulogy was nothing compared to the private eulogy we each had once we came home and were just reliving the past.  We shared private stories that made us laugh and remember.  We came together not only to mourn the death of a loved one, but to most importantly celebrate his life.

Anyway, I’m pretty sure that’s about all you want to hear about that subject.  On to the here and now.

So today my best friends and I are going out for afternoon tea.  How amazing right?!  We’ve been dying to go since one of us passed by a tea place a few weeks ago, but trying to come up with a time that fits all of our schedules has been nearly impossible.  But the stars aligned this week and we have reservations for Lisa’s Tea Treasures in Campbell at 2:30.   I will be sure to take pictures and document our tea time and perhaps post the pictures tomorrow. :) Until then, stay warm my ClosetCat readers!

New Year, Fresh Start -Shar January 19, 2010

I’m back in DC :-)

And I just started my internship at the Air and Space Museum, which is going SO well.   I love it!

And my classes for this semester are looking very promising (I had to get a Twitter account for one class – @sharleente)

AND I just moved to a new place.  FINALLY…

So lots and lots of changes and new beginnings!  2010 is going to be great!

I’ve particularly found that moving is always exciting – although sometimes also stressful.  I love that period when you first move and you start “nesting,” that is, working things around so that you feel like you’ve created a space that is fully and inarguably yours.  Now, I’m just renting a room so my space-making is somewhat limited.  I’ll post those pictures up once I feel that this area is truly mine (I’m still working out the kinks and the blah spots).

In the meantime, I thought I’d share with you what it WOULD look like, had I been blessed with my ideal location in the world and my ideal bank account:

Option One

Option Two

As you can see, I like my whites pristine and my woods rich, with a splash of accent colors here and there.  A view of the beach through the floor-to-ceiling windows would be icing on the cake.

This is where I sigh with longing and sign off until next time…

Stay tuned, Cathy’s sure to be regaling us with jealousy-inducing stories of her trip to the Philippines!

Trip! – Cathy January 12, 2010

I’m traveling to the Philippines soon! I’m so anxious to go swimming, go shopping, eat fresh food, have mango smoothies with every meal, and most-importantly spend time with my family. It will surely be one of the best times of my life. I’m ecstatic!!!

One of my highlights will be going to Pagsanjan Falls. I first saw it on the travel channel with Samantha Brown a few years ago and knew I had to experience it myself. The trip starts with going up a river for about an hour in canoes that your guide paddles. On both sides of the river is lush, green, steep mountainside.  You can hear the waterfall in the distance, birds and monkeys jumping overhead. Then at the end, you transfer to rafts (pictured below) and get pulled underneath the falls. How fun!!!!

On a shopping front, the Philippines is land of the shopping malls. Huge ones. Every mall there is comparable to the Mall of America – picture 3+ stories high, and miles upon miles of retail space. They’re huge. They’re slogan is “No other mall comes close.” Geeze – but it’s true. Because of the immense temptation, I was thinking of making a shopping list so I don’t go overboard.

So far I’ve got:

- Black ballet flats

- Oversized cardigan

- Large light grey hobo bag

- Loose fitting cropped pants

I can’t't deny that I’ll surely find some purchases that aren’t on this list. But at least I have a guide to focus on and won’t come home with hella Manila t-shirts that I blindly bought $2 per. =)

Cathy

I’ve been reading Diane Von Furstenberg’s autobiography so voraciously that I finished it in 3 work days. It’s such an entertaining and inspiring read that paints the image of a fabulous woman. In it, she talks about how she marks special moments in her life with buying herself jewelry. Notably every time she broke up with a boyfriend, reconfirming her promise to herself. Her positivity is ethereal and palpable throughout the pages.

Inspired, I found some gorgeous jewelry online that could perfectly mark a special occasion in my life.

New year, new resolutions. Every year I have the same 3 resolutions.

1. Learn a language. (Tagalog & Italian).

2. Be physically active every other day – at least.

3. Pay off my credit card.

It’s a new year, and I’m newly pumped to pull off all three. I love how despite broken past resolutions and false starts, the chiming in of a new year restores all confidence and strengthens optimism.

For sh**s and giggles, a plainly fun song to get you in the mood for the new year and all your goals.

Ciao,

Cathy

Hey y’all!

Merry Christmas! Happy Hanukkah! Good Kwanzaa to you! And Happy New Year!

We hope you all ate good food, shared good times, and are ready for a fabulous new year. In celebrating the holidays, we gave ourselves a small present, i.e. advertising on a great blog site, called The Coveted. It’s a stunning blog on fashion, style, new designers, makeup, and all things wonderful. The founder, Jennine, is also the founder of Independent Fashion Bloggers.

In the new year, we at ClosetCat look forward to new closets, more posting, exciting fashion muses, safe travels, and good reads.

A few new closets that are sure to pop up soon are, Cathy’s SoCal Boheme and Shar’s Romantic Layers. Also, Cathy’s traveling to the Philippines come the end of January, and that trip will surely evolve into a closet as well.

All our love,

Cathy, Lara, & Shar

Fashion Muse, Daphne Guinness – Cathy December 22, 2009

I recently came across an article on Daphne Guinness and I was taken aback by her highly influenced fashion background and unique style. She has such a strong personal flare for style and a seeming lack of desire to impress anyone but herself. From her punky two-toned hair to the haute couture shoes she walks in, she clearly makes anything she wears her own.

Style Quotes:

“I’m not using magazines as a reference point,” explains British heiress and movie producer Daphne Guinness, whose exceptional personal style first caught the attention of McQueen 10 years ago, when he spotted her striding across Leicester Square in his Givenchy orange-and-purple dragon robe in the middle of a freezing winter. “I thought, I have to meet that woman,” he recalls. Guinness became not only a close friend and client of the designer’s but also a stylistic muse. – Harpers Bazaar

“Celebrities almost never look good unless they are ‘out’ at something or other, while real fashion animals always look a little interesting, even if they are only going to Starbucks. Individuality will always exist,” she asserts. “It’s more that it has become very underground and doesn’t infiltrate the mainstream as much as it should, so you have to search it out, which is getting more difficult, but also more rewarding.” - Vogue UK

[Knowing one's silhouette is] like having that baseline of scent that I cover up myself with. You know, I’ll have a baseline of clothes and then I’ll work up from that. During the day, it sort of develops. Then I’ll sometimes think, “Oh God, how did I do that?” But then I can never recreate it. - Style.com

“I grew up in an artists’ colony near Barcelona with Salvador DalÍ and the Surrealists, so my dress sense is very coloured by my youth. Everybody knew that DalÍ was the most crazy; you’d go to his house and he would have lobsters in his pool. Anything went, clothes-wise. You could wear whatever you wanted any time of day, so people would wear evening clothes at breakfast time, simple Catalan shoes and hats, lots of brightly coloured hippy kaftans, and a lot of French, tailored outfits.”  - Times Online UK

Inner Nerdiness – Shar December 17, 2009

I have been MIA as well, I know, but I’ve been poring over books and research, then flew home to recuperate from it all. Man, this grad school business is tough…

But.  I’m in grad school because I’m a nerd.  I am.  There’s no point in denying it, really.

I’ve been reading voraciously since I was 5; I retain random bits of scientific facts; history intrigues me like no other; and math… okay, maybe I’m not the most well-rounded nerd…

Anyway, I like school.  It drives me haggard with the amount of work sometimes and I constantly make disgruntled declarations of my being fed up.  But honestly, I love the challenge and I love the learning.

And I LOVE writing.

There’s just something about a fresh, crisp, clean sheet of paper that both excites me with its promise and challenges me not to waste it.  (I suppose the same thing could be said about that blank, white Document1 on MS Word, but I feel like that blinking cursor is pressuring me to start typing whatever.)  So for creative, non-strictly-academic purposes, I like journals and notebooks – whatever their shape or size.  I do, however, had a bad habit of collecting notebooks because they’re pretty, but never quite filling them out before getting a new one.  Again, it might have something to do with that fresh promise of a new start.

Now, one of my non-nerdy loves in this world is shoes.  If I wasn’t acutely conscious of my status as a stereotypically broke college student, I’d have nothing to keep this budding shoe fetish in check.  It helped having two sisters because we’ve pretty much tripled our shoe choices at home by virtue of having the same shoe size.  Then, when I moved out, I constantly bemoaned the fact that my roommate had absolutely gorgeous shoes – but not the same size.  Dammit, Cathy… :P

Anyway, here’s the connection.  How to merge the love of notebooks and the love of shoes.  I guess one way would be to write about it, which is essentially what I’m doing right now.

Or!
